Super Yacht Owners Guide Published

The latest edition of the annually produced Super Yacht Owners Guide is about to be unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show.  The indispensible guide is now in its third year of publication and this issue is larger and even more detailed than in previous years.

Fact filled, well researched and hard hitting articles precede each of the useful and comprehensively detailed directories that list where to get anything that is needed by owners of large yachts making this book both an interesting read and a must keep compendium of real contacts.

Richard Coles a maritime specialist lawyer with HBJ Gateley Wareing has lent his considerable wisdom to the thorny topic of the MLC and Ayuk Ntuiabane of Moore Stephens has succeeded in clarifying how important VAT issues are.

Other chapters written by leading figures in the industry include subjects on Chartering, Berthing, Refitting, Equipping and Outfitting a Superyacht.  Others deal with the Design and Build and Project Management to the point that very little subject matter is left untouched.

Published in hard backed covers using an A5 Format that opens in a landscape aspect the 228 page guide is easily stored by Captains on the bookshelf on the bridge and by yacht managers, brokers designers and suppliers on their desk as a ready to hand reference tool.

It can be collected from the SYOG / Yachting Pages stand at the Monaco Yacht Show QS95 and is available to all superyacht industry qualified persons without charge.

It is also available from Super Yacht Owners Guide from info@syog.com

New Superyacht Design from Rob Humphreys

Drawing heavily upon the flowing lines of the J Class yachts as inspiration Rob Humphreys has created the new Tempus Class.  He was commissioned by the owner of Arkin Pruva Yachts to resurrect one of the J designs under the provisions of the current J-Class Association rules, staying true to the hull design of one of the eleven designs officially available for 'developments. Work proceeds apace on this project and the accompanying research has been a source of great delight.

However, mixed in with the excitement of rediscovering lost values has come the realisation that a pure J is almost too compromised by its history to make it an ideal cruising yacht in today's world. So the Tempus was born —spiritually close to its forebears but developed in a number of ways to make it more applicable to a modern lifestyle.

Visit the Humphreys Yacht Design stand (QDC) at the Monaco Yacht Show for more information.

Superyacht Marina opens in southern Spain

A major boost for the leisure boating industry in southern Spain has arrived with the opening of Alcaidesa Marina near Gibraltar in southern Spain.

The 624 Marina, built by Alcaidesa, the Spanish company in which Costain holds an equal stake with Santander Bank subsidiary Banesto, opened for business this summer.

The facility in La Linea de la Concepción, immediately adjacent to Gibraltar, can accept yachts up to 50 metres overall and offers the provision of broadband at each of the berths, together with fresh water and power connections.

Additionally, the Marina has been constructed to allow greater than normal width at each berth to cater for the increasing beams of modern leisure craft.

Good transport links form part of the attraction of the new facility: “The exit from Gibraltar Airport is right on the border and a 10-minute walk from the Marina,” comments Costain’s Director, Group Property, Martin Burdes.

Additionally, the international airports of Malaga and Jerez are just an hour’s car journey away.

The latest Superyacht Concept from Feadship

Take a breather from everyday life and look forward with Breathe the name of the latest concept from Feadship and one they will unveil at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Never content with resting on their laurels, the designers at Feadship De Voogt have again speculated on how the next generation of superyachts might look like.

Each year a new concept joins the virtual fleet of future Feadships, and this one is in many ways the most radical to date.

They have taken the science of Biomimicry, an emerging discipline that studies nature’s best ideas
and then imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems as a starting point

We are told she features the very best nature has to offer within an inimitable Feadship design and as in concepts released earlier by the superyacht builder it will be well worth calling in on their stand to see it at Monaco.

Superyacht App for iPad

Look out for a new superyacht brokerage application designed specifically for use on the Apple iPad and iPhone.

It comes from YCO, and will be demonstrated at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show 22 – 25 September.

It is designed to facilitate superyacht searches, enabling yacht brokers, buyers and charterers to quickly and easily review available yachts, toys, tenders and other essential yacht accessories.

Essentially a portable, interactive catalogue of superyachts and all that goes with them, the chief benefit of the application is in its mobility.

Seeking to bring modern technology into brokerage YCO saw the potential to create portable sales and charter catalogues when the iPad was launched.
  • It’s greener than printing off reams of paper
  • It’s less cumbersome
  • it’s interactive
  • It’s easy to keep fully up-to-date.
The company believes that the real value of the app will be evident at yacht shows and on yacht viewings.

While physically viewing one yacht, clients will be able to compare its specifications, décor, and list of toys and so on with another yacht on the market – instantly

The app will be available to view at the YCO stand on the Quai Chicane at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, where the company will also be exhibiting the newly launched 39m Feadship Go.
